It’s almost a new year which means we will soon see our Facebook newsfeed filled with new resolutions. Many of those resolutions will include getting out of debt and into a better financial situation. If you are one of those people (I am too) you will want to start with Dave Ramsey’s: The Total Money Makeover Book because it will get you pumped and ready to get your life on track!
About a year ago I purchased this book. Sure I started his program only to get off track but then quickly got back on track. Since I found this book, it’s one I continually read. I am inspired! I want to help my family reach financial peace and pay off debt even if it takes me a few tries to really get his principles down.
As many of you know, my husband and I are both students. This means that we are borrowing student loans to help our way through school but after reading the principles behind Dave Ramsey’s book, I see that isn’t in the best interest for our family. Therefore, I have a goal to pay off our existing student loan debt and pay cash for school within 2 years.
If you have heard of Dave Ramsey you have probably heard nothing but good things. He is everywhere and just about everyone has heard of him. If you have any debt I highly recommend purchasing this book because it will change your life. I have several family members and friends that have done his program with success and are now debt free!
So where am I at? Well, every month we use the envelope system. I actually bought the Financial Peace University Executive Envelope System and use that to budget our expenses. We have also saved $1,000 and now are working on paying off debt which really only consists of our Jeep and our student loans. I cannot wait until we are to the point where we can purchase our first home and have that as our only debt (which we will work hard to really pay off quickly).
The idea behind Dave Ramsey’s Principles:
The basic idea behind this is that you are managing your money and watching where is goes by paying in cash. Most people use credit cards or debit cards to pay for things and we just aren’t as connected emotionally to our money when using plastic opposed to using paper. Therefore it helps us spend less.
I wanted to let you all know what I am doing in case you all are facing a huge debt cloud over your head. If you are, spend $13 and get this book. It will change everything and give you some really great insight on money. I will also keep you guys updated with how things are going in the future while I am doing Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover!
