Crockpot Spiced Wassail

It seems like almost everyone has been buried in snow this weekend (including myself). Here in  Utah we have received several inches of snow with more in the forecast (yes, I know nothing like a few feet some have seen). All this cold weather had me craving a recipe my father-in-law shared with me for Crockpot Spiced Wassail.

It’s loaded with apple flavoring, spices, and a bit of orange flavoring. If you need something to help keep you warm while we fight our way to Spring, I am sure this recipe is it!

What You Will Need to Make Crockpot Spiced Wassail:

  • Crockpot (I used my Ninja Cooking System)
  • (2) 64 oz. Bottles of Apple Cider
  • 2 Navel Oranges, Sliced
  • 4-5 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 Tablespoon Whole Cloves
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Ginger
  • Canned Whipped Cream (optional)

How to Make Crockpot Wassail:

I am pretty sure this recipe couldn’t be any simpler but let me try to think of how I can further the instructions…

First you want to cut up the oranges into slices (rounds). I used the first orange as-is and the second orange I actually squeezed the juice out of it before placing it into the crockpot.

The next step really is just to add all of the ingredients into your crockpot. Cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 1-3. You want to get it to a nice boil so that the flavor is extracted from the juices and spices.

Once it’s been boiling for some time, turn your crockpot back down to low and serve it up. Top it off with an orange slice and some whipped cream.

This recipe is one that my father-in-law makes every Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s been a traditional drink that many have enjoyed. My husband actually tried something new this year and put a bit of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum into it and he said it was delicious. So you can have some spiked spiced wassel too!
