How to Use The Snowball Method to Pay Off Debt
Dave Ramsey’s Debt Snowball Method is a way to quickly pay off your debt.
You begin by listing your debts from smallest to largest in terms of the balance. You then make minimum payments on all your debts except for the smallest debt. With that one, you throw everything extra at it until it’s paid off.
Once the smallest debt is paid, you take that minimum payment + any extra money you have and you attack the next debt. You keep doing this creating a “snowball effect” until your debt is paid.
Why The Debt Snowball Method Works
Since you are paying off your debt smallest to largest, you are able to see progress much faster allowing you to stay motivated to paying the next debt until you are debt free!
This is based on the principles of Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover Book and Financial Peace University.
How to Use The Debt Snowball Worksheets
All you need to do is download and print the Debt Snowball Tracker Worksheets.
The first page in the kit is the Debt Snowball Payments page. Here you will list all of your debts from smallest to largest. You will also include your monthly payment and the amounts you have paid on it each month. You will cross off each month as that bill is paid.
The second page in the kit is the Debt Payoff Tracker. Here you can list goals and information pertaining to each debt. This allows you to see your progress on each debt until you reach that 100% debt payoff section.
The third and final page is the Debt Snowball Worksheet. Here you will list each debt from smallest to largest and add in information like your minimum monthly payment and how much extra you pay each month. Once it’s paid, you move onto the next debt.
