Buffalo Plaid Cone Tree
Supplies Needed:
- 12” Foam Cone
- Taper Candlestick Holder
- 2.5” Buffalo Plaid Wire Edge Ribbon
- Star Ornament
- Seaside Villa Chalk Paint
- Foam Paint Brush
- Sanding Block
- Hot Glue

How to Make A Buffalo Plaid Cone Tree
Cut 30 pieces of ribbon measuring 4” long. Fold each piece of ribbon in half and secure with a dot of hot glue.

Cover the foam cone with ribbon. Start at the bottom of the cone by adhering a piece of the folded ribbon with hot glue, making sure the folded part extends slightly beyond the bottom of the cone.
Continue adding ribbon until this first layer is all the way around the bottom. Make sure to slightly overlap the sides of each ribbon.

Start the second layer by centering a piece of folded ribbon over where two pieces meet on the lower layer to create a ruffled look. Overlap the top of the bottom layer by approximately 1/2”.
Continue layering until you reach the top of the cone.

When you reach the top layer, make sure the unfinished edge of the ribbon sticks up a little bit taller than the foam cone to hide the top of the foam.

Paint the candle stick and star ornament with Seaside Villa chalk paint. You’ll need 4 coats to cover the glass candlestick completely. Make sure the paint is dry before adding the next coat.

Use a sanding block to scuff up the edges of the candle holder to give it a chippy paint look.

Adhere the foam cone to the candle holder stand. First, add hot glue around the rim of the candle holder.
To easily center the candle holder, hold the foam cone upside down and press the candle holder to the bottom. Turn right side up and let sit for a few minutes to make sure the cone is well bonded to the candle holder.

Add a star ornament to the top of the tree. Push one of the points of the star ornament into the top of the foam cone.
Mine feels very secure, but if yours doesn’t, simply add a dab of glue on the star point and push it back into the top of the foam.
You can now display it or gift it for the holidays!
