Giant Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb

This Giant Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb is the perfect way to serve up Grinch themed hot cocoa to everyone at your Christmas party! Simply make it, drop it into an Instant Pot of hot milk and watch it melt before your eyes! It is sure to be a hit!
This Giant Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb is inspired by our viral Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb. The idea just came to me one day and guess what? This is an original idea you won’t find anywhere else!

Giant Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb
Ingredients Needed:
- Bright green candy melts – I prefer the Wilton brand but as long as they are green, any will do.
- Dark Green candy melts – Optional but I love the look of the drizzle on top
- Red Heart Sprinkles – I prefer for the Wilton brand
- White Hot Chocolate Mix – I prefer Ghirardelli or Stephen’s. You can also use milk chocolate but it will change the color of your hot cocoa.
- Mini Marshmallows
- Red candy melts – These will be used to make a red heart to stick on top
- Green Sprinkles
- Hot Milk
Tools Needed:
- Microwave Safe Bowls
- Spoon
- Wilton 3D Sports Ball Cake Pan
- Wilton Silicone Heart Mold
- Instant Pot
How Big Is The Giant Hot Cocoa Bomb?
This hot cocoa bomb measures 6 in. x 6 in. and is large enough to serve 6-8 people. I actually took a picture of a regular sized hot cocoa bomb and this giant hot cocoa bomb for comparison.
What Mold Do You Use for Giant Hot Cocoa Bombs?
In order to make a large hot cocoa bomb, we used the Wilton 3D sports ball cake pan.
How Much Milk Do You Use for A Giant Hot Cocoa Bomb?
The amount of milk you will use depends on how sweet you intend your hot cocoa to be. We used 2/3 Gallon of 1% milk. You can use any milk you wish. If you want it more sweet, use less milk. If you want it less sweet, use more milk.
How To Make A Giant Hot Cocoa Bomb
Start by making the red chocolate heart that will go on top of your Grinch hot cocoa bomb. To do this, melt the red candy hearts in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and repeat until all the chocolate is melted.
Fill each cavity of the silicone heart mold half way and set aside. Allow this chocolate to set as you continue with the additional steps.
Now, it’s time to make your hot cocoa bomb shell. Using the bright green candy melts, heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and repeat until all the chocolate is melted.
Carefully spoon the melted green chocolate into the Wilton 3D ball cake pan and then swirl it around using your hands. You want to cover every part of the mold the best you can. Allow this to set for a few minutes.
Repeat the step above until you have 3-4 coats of the chocolate (you want this to be a bit thick to avoid it from cracking upon removal).
Once all of your coats are finished, place the ball pans into the freezer for about 7 minutes and then remove.
Gently flip the pans over and the chocolate should pop right out.
Fill one half of your chocolate mold with the hot cocoa powder and mini marshmallows.
Place a hot plate on top of the chocolate mold to melt the edges and then melt the other half of the chocolate mold.
Place the two halves together and then use your finger to rub the edges of the melted chocolate together (this helps seal the seam of the hot cocoa bomb).
Melt the dark green candy melts and drizzle over the top of the hot cocoa bomb. Now is also the time to place a red candy heart (after removing from the mold) right in the middle on top while the chocolate is still tacky.
Top off with sprinkles and allow the chocolate to set.
Refrigerate or use right away.
Once you are ready to consume it, you can either place this into the bottom of an Instant Pot and pour hot milk over it or simmer hot milk in the Instant Pot and then drop the Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb inside.
Stir and use a ladle to scoop into individual mugs. Enjoy!
Things To Note:
- Do not get your chocolate candy melts wet or allow any water to get near them, it will cause the chocolate to seize.
- If you want to make your chocolate more drizzly for the top, add about 1/2 tsp coconut oil into the chocolates, melt and mix.
- For the drizzle, you can use a spoon or scoop the melted chocolate into a baggie or pastry bag, snip off the tip and drizzle that way.
- This hot cocoa bomb should be stored away from heat until ready to consume so it doesn’t melt.
- If the chocolate mold doesn’t remove from the pan, carefully take a butter knife around the edges of the pan to ensure it’s not stuck on the ends.
- Do not spray or grease the Wilton pan prior to pouring the chocolate into the mold.
