What You Need to Make Grinch Brittle

You will also need:

  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Two Forks, or Spoons – to spread the candy
  • 6 small dishes for ingredients
  • Airtight container – to store the Brittle

How far in advance can I make these?

These can be made 2-3 days in advance. Just be sure to store in a cool, dry place to avoid the chocolate from getting wet and these getting too hard and stale. Do not store in the fridge.

Can I use pre-colored candy melts?

Yes! If you’d rather skip coloring the chocolate bark, you can purchase the Wilton-colored candy melts and use those instead. I would recommend the Wilton Vibrant Green Candy Melts. I just prefer the taste of the white chocolate.

Can I use regular food coloring?

No. Regular food coloring is water-based and will cause the melted chocolate to seize and harden. Use only gel food coloring as it is oil based.

How to Make a Grinch Brittle

First, measure out all your ingredients into small dishes. If you skip this skep, the candy will be begin to harden too quickly. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!

In a microwave safe medium size bowl, add the sugar and corn syrup and stir together. Place in the Microwave for 6 minutes, on HIGH, stirring half way through, at 3 minutes.

Remove Bowl, and stir in Baking Soda – the mixture will be light and foamy.

Quickly, pour the Brittle out onto the Parchment Paper lined Cookie sheet, and spread out into a thin layer with spoons, or forks – you’ll need two utensils to spread the Brittle.

Let the Brittle cool for about 30 minutes, and make sure the Brittle is set, or hard to the touch.

Melt the White Chocolate in the Microwave, and stir until smooth.  Add a few drops of the Green Food Coloring Gel, and stir until blended.  Add more if needed to achieve the green color.

Using a Fork, or small spoon, drizzle the melted Chocolate over the Brittle, leaving enough space for the Brittle to show through the chocolate.

Add the Red Grinch Hearts, pressing them slightly into the Green chocolate.

Allow about an hour for the Chocolate to completely harden, and all ingredients to cool completely.

When Brittle is cool, Break into pieces.

Serve and Enjoy!

Things to Note:

  • Store Brittle in an air tight container for up to 10 days. Place the pieces on waxed paper, or parchment paper to make sure they don’t stick together, and place the paper between layers if you’re stacking the pieces.
  • Do Not store in the refrigerator.  The Candy needs to be stored in a cool dry place – not next to the stove, and not in Sunlight, as it will melt and get sticky.  Humidity will ruin the candy, so air tight containers are a must.
