What You Need to Make Grinch Rice Krispies Treats

How to Make Grinch Rice Krispies Treats

Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper and coat with nonstick cooking spray.

Place the butter and marshmallows in a medium bowl and microwave for 2 minutes or until the marshmallows begin to get puffy and grow.

Remove them and stir. If there are still lumps, put them back in for 15 seconds at a time and stir until smooth.

Add the green food dye (as much as you want until you reach your desired shade of green. I ended up using the entire container as I wanted mine really green) and stir until no streaks appear.

Add in the rice krispies and mix until the cereal is fully coated with the green marshmallow mixture.

Pour into the pan, spread even, and lightly pack it down.

Leave to sit for about 2 hours at room temp, or in a cool room, or until set.

Slice the treats into 6 even hunks and place a red heart at the upper right corner of each.

Serve and Enjoy!

Helpful Tips:

  • I have found that the perfect treat is a 1:1 ratio between rice krispies and mini marshmallows. However, if for some reason, your treats are too sticky or not wanting to set up, add more rice krispies.
  • I used the basic gel food dye found down the baking aisle of Walmart. Nothing fancy.
  • I had trouble finding the larger heart sprinkles anywhere but Amazon.
  • Definitely prepare your pan before you mix everything together, because that marshmallow will want to dry quickly.
  • Do not mix the dye in after you put the cereal in as it won’t work well, at that point. It has to go in after the marshmallows have been melted.
  • The heart sprinkles should stick on their own due to the very light stickiness of the rice krispie treat. However, if they don’t, you can use a dab of melted marshmallow, melted chocolate, or even frosting, to apply them.
