Hocus Pocus Popcorn

One of my favorite things to do every fall is watching Hocus Pocus with my family and now that Hocus Pocus 2 is releasing this Fall, I had to make a Halloween popcorn worthy of eating during a family movie night.

This fun Halloween treat is extremely easy to make and requires just 4 ingredients making it kid-friendly too.

We made it so each popcorn was made with the colors of each Sanderson Sister.

For Winifred (Bette Midler) we made the popcorn green with orange sprinkles, for Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) we made the popcorn purple with yellow sprinkles and for Mary (Kathy Najimy) we made the popcorn purple with red sprinkles.

You can make it in bulk for party guests and everyone will be saying, “It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus”.

What sort of popcorn should I use?

You can use any bag of popcorn (the kind you microwave). However, it does work best with salted white popcorn (non-buttered).

What sort of candy melts should I use?

I used pre-colored Wilton candy melts. They melt really easy in the microwave and they are already colored saving you time, money and the headache of having to color your own melting chocolate.

How many servings does this recipe make?

Each bag of popped popcorn (3.2 oz) makes 3 mini cauldrons. So, if you make all 3 colors using 1 bag of popcorn for each color, you’ll have 9 servings (enough colored popcorn to fill 9 mini cauldrons). This can vary depending on the size of your cauldrons, the amount of chocolate used, etc.

How far in advance can I make this?

I would make it right before you are ready to enjoy it. It does get hard over time so I recommend making it right before serving or at least the same day as your Halloween party.

How to Make Hocus Pocus Popcorn

Start by cooking your popcorn according to the directions on the package. Be careful not to burn.

Line a cooking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Separate your candy melts into 3 separate bowls (one color for each) and add a teaspoon of coconut oil to each bowl. This helps make the candy melts easier to work with.

Begin by melting the purple candy melts in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and repeat until the candy melts are melted.

Once the candy melts are melted, pour directly over popcorn (or add popcorn to the candy melt bowl) and stir well.

Once the popcorn is fully coated, dump onto the cookie sheet and immediately top off with the yellow sprinkles. Allow to dry/harden for about 5 minutes.

Repeat the steps above for each color of the candy melts (make sure to use the right colored sprinkles with the right colored candy melts).
