Homemade Dishwasher Pods Are Fun to Make
If you’ve never made your own cleaning products, they are quite fun to make. There is something about making more natural products to use around your home.
These homemade dishwasher pods are a great place to start and are so easy to make. The hardest part is waiting for them to harden.
Aside from using these homemade dishwasing pods in your home, you can throw them into a cute mason jar with a fun printable tag and gift them to family, friends and neighbors.

- It is easy to make – It’s as simple as mixing up 4-ingredients and putting them into a silicone ice cube tray (then waiting for them to harden).
- It is inexpensive – Store-bought dishwashing tablets can be so expensive and this is a very budget-friendly way to make them at home
- It is a great natural cleaning agent – Forget all those harmful chemicals found in store-bought cleaners, this uses more natural ingredients you may already have on hand.
What You Need to Make Homemade Dishwasher Pods
- Distilled White Vinegar – This really is such an underrated ingredient to have always on hand
- Salt- You can use regular iodized salt, kosher salt or sea salt
- Baking Soda– Just plain baking soda you have in your pantry works great
- Castille Soap – This is a liquid that you will use. You can get a scented one or unscented. I like this peppermint castille soap here.
- Silicone Ice Cube Tray – Silicone makes it easier to remove the pods from. You can get any size and any shape you want. I used this heart silicone tray here.
Helpful Tips
- You can double or triple the amounts to make more just make sure you have enough silicone trays
- If you are using larger silicone trays, you will make bigger dishwashing tablets and there will be less.
4-Ingredient Homemade Dishwasher Pods
Materials
- 1 Cup Baking Soda
- ¼ Cup Salt
- 1 tablespoon Castille Soap
- 2 Tablespoons White Vinegar
- 2 Silicone Ice Cube Trays any size, any shape
Instructions
- Add your baking soda, salt and castille soap into a large bowl. Mix well.
- Add just enough vinegar to dampen the mixture. I added 2 Tablespoons and mixed thoroughly. You want to be able to grab the mixture and just have it stick together but not be too wet or sticky.
- Spread the mixture into the ice cube tray by pushing into each cavity.
- Let it dry for about 48 hours. I put mine in the sun so it would dry faster.
- When ready, gently pop out from the mold by pushing gently from the backside of the silicone mold.
- Store in a covered container away from moisture and heat.
- When ready, throw 1 to 2 into your dishwasher and wash as usual.
