When I talk about LuLaRoe and how being an Independent Retailer has changed my life, I am often asked, How LuLaRoe is Different Than Other Companies? Specifically, other MLM companies. And the easy answer is they are VERY different but, I figured it was time to put the comparison trap to rest and share really why they are different.
How LuLaRoe is Different than Other MLM Companies
Are you a huge skeptic of multi-level-marketing companies? Have you been burned in the past? I think most of us have, but I want to talk to you about a company that is completely different than any company you’ve ever worked with before: LuLaRoe. It sounds salesy but it isn’t (there is more passion behind it than you know).
LuLaRoe is more like a small wholesale business than a direct sales business, because you buy your inventory up front. The investment is higher (about $6,000), but the best part about LuLaRoe is that you don’t have to be a salesperson to be successful! The clothes really do sell themselves (really!), and it’s a ton of fun to host in-home parties.
As a LuLaRoe retailer, you don’t have to do a long speech or presentation, you don’t have to pass around samples and try to get people to buy things, and you don’t have to hover! When folks come to an in-home party they are ready to shop. If they don’t come ready to shop, it only takes trying on the “buttery soft” leggings once to get hooked.
How is LuLaRoe Different?
LuLaRoe is different than other MLM companies for many reasons. Not just because it’s massively popular with a huge loyal following after just three years, but also because your success as a fashion retailer is not determined by how large you can grow your downline. In many MLM companies, you absolutely have to grow your downline or you won’t make the big bucks. With LuLaRoe, you can literally never sign anyone up under you and still have the ability to make a full-time income from home, on your own time.
There are no catalogs or personal websites set up by the company itself. Your sales will be conducted as in home “pop-ups”, or online. Facebook Live is one of the main tools LuLaRoe fashion retailers use during sales. Forbes even mentioned it in one of their recent articles.
When you order your inventory, you don’t get to pick patterns – just styles and sizes. This makes it a fun surprise and also a great marketing opportunity to do one of those wildly popular “unboxing” videos on YouTube or in your Facebook group.
LuLaRoe does have rules like other direct sales companies do, but as of right now they aren’t quite as strict as some of the others I’ve seen. You can’t sell on public pages but you can sell in your private groups. Steer clear of buy, sell, trade groups and make sure you always wear your happy face because negativity is frowned upon… no pun intended.
If you’ve been looking into the possibility of becoming a LuLaRoe retailer, chances are you’ve noticed that the investment is quite large compared to other MLM companies. That is one huge way LuLaRoe is different: you’re starting your own business. Yes, you kind of have your own business with other companies but with LuLaRoe it’s literally set up like a wholesale business. The big draw to LuLaRoe is the brand name and the scarcity mindset because of the limited amount of each print. So unlike starting an actual wholesale business on your own, you have the support and backing of a sponsor as well as the name that sells itself.
Something for Everyone
LuLaRoe is perfect for everyone – well, for anyone who wears clothes. It’s safe to say that is the majority of the population, right? While they’re most well-known for their leggings, they also carry shirts in several styles, dresses, skirts, and even men’s shirts! You’ll find Mommy & Me legging sets, and leggings in every size from little kids’ all the way up to plus size.
The women’s clothing line fits all sizes from 0 up to 22, with some fitting up to a size 26. I don’t know of any store that you can walk into and get the personalized attention you’ll get with a LuLaRoe retailer and find something to fit everyone in your family. The clothing is fashionable, comfortable, and affordable – plus, the profit margins are high, which is great!
No Competition Between retailers
In most MLM companies you will find competition among all of the retailers. With LuLaRoe, it’s different! LuLaRoe is more of a sisterhood than a direct sales company, and the fact that each print is limited makes it easy to team up with other fashion retailers rather than compete with them! Each retailer has their own inventory and you only choose size and style (not pattern), so there’s no preferential treatment, either.
If you don’t have a pattern that one of your customers is looking for, you can refer them to another retailer. In return, that retailer will keep you in mind when they have a customer that is looking for a print or style they don’t have in stock!
Pretty much every MLM company has incentives if you grow your team large enough or sell a massive amount of items, but with LuLaRoe the bar is set pretty low as far as earning cruises and other incentives. When you earn a cruise, you’ll be attending with other retailers – some who are fairly new to the company. Incentives are not only reserved for the “higher ups” like in many companies.
Getting Started With LuLaRoe
Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the brand and have decided to jump in as a retailer, prepare by finding a sponsor and joining the queue. Next, you’ll need to fund your investment. Remember that your initial investment isn’t your only expense. You’ll need other supplies: poly mailers, a label printer, hangers (try Costco for a great deal), and a place to hang all of your inventory.
