With any MLM company, choosing your sponsor is one of the most important decisions you will make. Many times, your upline can determine a large portion of your success! I’m not saying that you will be a failure if you have a not-so-great sponsor, but a wonderful sponsor makes all the difference in so many ways.

Questions to Ask

Do you already know (and like!) the person? Sometimes you might stumble across a blog post (like this one!) and feel an instant connection with the writer. Even if you don’t know them, you can just tell they’d be a great sponsor. The same goes with YouTube videos. If you read or watch something and like the person behind the screen, that’s just as good as knowing the person in real life. That is the joy of being your own boss, and working from home – you meet so many people you wouldn’t normally meet and you make connections like no other!

It’s important to like your sponsor because you’ll be spending a lot of time together, even if it’s just online. When looking for a sponsor, I wanted to find someone who offered as much support as possible because LuLaRoe does things a little differently than most companies do. So even if you have experience with other MLM companies or direct sales, you’ll need a little hand holding through the process with LuLaRoe.

Experience with LuLaRoe

How long have they been selling LuLaRoe? At the time of this posting, there are no rules on how long someone has to be actively selling LuLaRoe before they can become a sponsor. While newbies can be great sponsors, I wanted to find a sponsor who knew the ins and outs and had already gone through the struggles of her first 6 months (or even year).

While LuLaRoe is constantly changing, it’s important to stay up to date by attending weekly calls and all trainings that are available. Does your potential sponsor attend calls and continue learning? Continuing education is vital to success in any business.

Show Me the Money!

To make money with LuLaRoe, you need to be organized. You’ll get some back office training even if your sponsor doesn’t offer extra training, but that won’t teach you how to get your ducks in a row. I recommend a planner (like this one) and a huge dry erase board, so you can keep track of your LIVE sales schedule.

How successful are they? Do they sell $20,000 a week? Or are they only selling $2,000 a month? Some sponsors sell less and spend more time building their downline, but if you want to grow to the point of selling tens of thousands of dollars each week, it’s a good idea to work with a sponsor who has experience with bigger numbers so they can help you through the process. Sponsors aren’t tax experts but if you have a sponsor that is comfortable working with larger numbers, they can point you in the right direction for dealing with them.

How much does LuLaRoe cost? You want to know exactly how much items sell retail for to determine how much of a potential profit you can make. I really like this LuLaRoe Price List – it’s the best I’ve found!

How successful are their recruits? Take a look at some of their direct downline. Interview them if they’re willing! Ask a few questions and see how successful their downline is. Chances are if they’re unhappy, they will let you know. It’s better to find this out sooner rather than later.

Are they willing to show you the ropes and help ensure your success? Who is Audrey? What is BLESS? How do I send an invoice? How do I do my first pop-up? How do I sell online, how do I sell in person? There are so many questions you’ll have when you join LuLaRoe! It’s completely natural – and is actually a good sign if you’re asking tons of questions. These questions can be answered during your 6-10 week wait in the queue. Your sponsor should have answers for you either in some files in a group, or a PDF, or be willing to answer via phone or PM.

Your sponsor should not be annoyed by questions, because all newbies have them. If your sponsor has a large team they may have someone else available to answer questions for you. As long as you’re getting the assistance you need, it doesn’t really matter if it comes directly from your sponsor or from her assistant.

Do they have a marketing strategy that is working well? Are they willing to share it with you? A huge part of any success you’ll have in sales is going to be based on marketing. Learn all you can about growing your LuLaRoe business while you’re in the queue. Use that time wisely!

Even if you don’t feel like you can be a “salesperson”, you can if you do it right! In LuLaRoe, we are matchmakers. We match women with clothes that make them feel absolutely amazing! Don’t think of it as sales, but remember that you have to be strategic. Your sponsor should help you with a marketing plan so you can move forward without having that initial struggle during start-up like so many have in other businesses.

The Bottom Line

In the end, sometimes we just have to go with our gut feeling. If you feel “icky” or unsure about anything that has to do with a potential sponsor, treat it as a red flag immediately rather than pushing it off and thinking it’s not a big deal. Look at how responsive your potential sponsor is, too. Do they take 3 days to answer your questions, or are they able to respond within a few hours? Are they helpful even though they aren’t sure you’re going to sign up with them? That’s a good sign! You have many options when it comes to choosing a sponsor for your LuLaRoe business.

Choosing a sponsor is an extremely important decision so don’t feel bad about being picky and asking questions before you sign up. Assuming you’re successful (you will be!), your sponsor will be making a nice chunk of change for having you ‘under’ them. Because of this, they should be willing to put the work in and help out as much as you need them to.

It’s very difficult, if not impossible, to change sponsors once you sign up! Do the homework before you sign on that dotted line and save yourself lots of headaches.
