A Halloween Egg Hunt is the perfect alternative to trick-or-treating. It’s a fun activity that uses mini plastic pumpkins filled with candy and toys for a one-of-a-kind Halloween celebration at home.
2020 is the year that changed everything including, trick-or-treating. For our family, we wanted a way to stay safe while allowing the kids to have a Halloween celebration they would remember.
This Halloween Egg hunt is it!
The kids will love hunting for these spooky and adorable Halloween eggs. Plus, they will have a little surprise waiting for them inside.

What you will need:
- Halloween Eggs (I found these mini pumpkin filled “eggs” at Target for $5 and they already come with toys)
- Mini Toys
- Candy (make sure they are small enough to find inside the eggs)
- Mini glow sticks (for a late night egg hunt)
How to Host A Halloween Candy Hunt
Once you’ve gathered your supplies, simply fill the Halloween eggs with the candy and toys.
Take the Halloween eggs out and hide them around the yard.
Once you are done hiding them, give the kids their trick-or-treat bags and allow them to go on a spooky hunt for the Halloween eggs!
We did a trial run and my kids had a BLAST!
Where to Find Halloween Eggs
If you cannot find the pumpkin eggs at Target like I did, here are some alternatives:
You can also use regular colored easter eggs and draw on spooky faces using a sharpie to make them look like Halloween characters.
Can I Host a Halloween Egg Hunt Indoors?
Yes of course! If the weather is bad outside on Halloween, you can take the hunt indoors! Just hide them around the house and let the kids go on a spooky hunt indoors.
Can I Host A Halloween Egg Hunt At Night?
Yes! This is actually super fun. All you will need is the same supplies as above and some mini glow sticks that will fit inside the eggs. Then hide the eggs as usual in the dark and take the kids out on a spooky, late-night egg hunt.
