Invest in Technology
Setting up a home office may require some degree of investment. You might need to buy a laptop, tablet or even a phone system. Sure, this can be expensive but over time, it can really help you to work more efficiently.
A general rule of thumb would be for you to work out if the investment is going to save you time or money in the long-run. If it is then it’s worth buying, especially if you see a return on your investment (which again, can simply be time).

Invest in Functional and Comfortable Furniture
You have to make sure that you invest in comfortable office furniture. If you work a lot of hours, then you may want to think about buying a large desk or even some bookshelves. It also helps to have a comfortable office chair too.
It’s important to remember that you are going to be sitting there for around 8 hours a day in most cases, so if you find it somewhat uncomfortable then your working day will be made harder than it actually needs to be.
Set Working Hours
Now that you have all of your space set up and organized, it’s time for you to really get down to business.
If you are going to be working from home every single day, then it’s a good idea for you to set working hours where possible. The best thing about working from home is that you are able to be as flexible as you want with this. Of course, sometimes it’s easy to take time off or even to work late, which is entirely fine as long as you are getting your work done.
Remember, working from home is all about balance with your time and energy!
Don’t feel obligated to set your hours between 9-5. The main reason for this is because these times may not align with your peak productivity level.
For example, if you feel as though you have more energy after 7pm then set your hours so that you get the bulk of your work done at this time. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this, and it is a great way for you to boost your level of productivity.
I am actually a night owl and find that I am more productive at night when the kids are in bed and it’s silent. Sometimes I get a bit too tired though so I try to plan ahead, nap when the kids naps and then work late into the night.
I am lucky that I have a husband home with me that can help take the kids to school and help in the morning while I get some extra sleep.
The point is, working from home doesn’t need to be difficult or draining. It certainly is challenging at first but once you find that balance you will find the joyfulness in it.
In fact, sometimes all you need to do is make a few simple changes so that you can get the best result out of your work and your lifestyle.
