Hot Cocoa Bombs Are So Fun!
With just about everywhere being sold out of hot cocoa bombs due to their popularity, we have been busy making our own such as our viral Grinch Hot Cocoa Bombs, Classic Hot Cocoa Bombs, Mickey Hot Cocoa Bombs and even our Giant Grinch Hot Cocoa Bomb.
So, you know we aren’t stopping any time soon and since I have two boys who love LEGOs, we had to make a LEGO shaped hot cocoa bomb.
If your kids like LEGO, chocolate and hot cocoa, this is perfect for them!
Hot Cocoa Bomb Tips:
- Avoid getting the candy melts wet (as in with water) or they will seize and will be ruined.
- The chocolate bombs need to be stored somewhere cool or they will melt.
- Avoid holding or touching the hot cocoa bombs for too long or they will melt in your hands.
- You can wear food safe gloves to avoid getting fingerprints on your chocolate bombs.
- To have easier control of the silicone molds and to make the chocolate come out easier, you can cut the silicone molds so that each sphere mold is by itself.
- To make a hot plate, place a microwave safe plate inside the microwave for 30 seconds and check on it. If it’s hot enough, remove with a heat resistant mitten. If not, heat for another 30 seconds until hot.
- To store, keep them in an airtight container in fridge to avoid melting.
- You do not need to spray the silicone mold with cooking spray, the hot cocoa bombs pop right out without any extra steps.
- You can place them inside sealed bags for gift giving.
What You Need To Make LEGO Man Hot Cocoa Bombs
- 2 Cups Chocolate Candy Melts – I prefer the Ghirardelli brand
- 2 Cups Hot Chocolate Mix – I prefer the Ghirardelli or Starbucks brand
- 2 Cups Mini Marshmallows
- 1/2 Cup Lego Sprinkles
- LEGO Man Silicone Mold – The medium size
How to Make LEGO Man Hot Cocoa Bombs
Place the chocolate candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir then repeat until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Be careful not to burn the chocolate.
Next, place about 2 tablespoons of the melted chocolate into one of the molds and, using the bottom of your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the chocolate up the sides of the mold, keeping it thick but even. Repeat with a second mold.
Place the chocolate filled molds into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove molds from the freezer and gently flip the mold over and pull the sides of the mold away from the chocolate. The chocolate LEGO man should pop right out.
Fill 1 side of the molds with 1 tablespoon hot chocolate mix, 1 tablespoon sprinkles, and 6-8 mini marshmallows.
Heat a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in the microwave until the surface of the plate is warm to the touch (about 2 minutes).
Press the empty chocolate lego man half open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate for about 10 seconds. This will gently melt the rim of the chocolate.
Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate cup to the top of the filled cup. This will join the two halves of the hot cocoa bomb. If you are having trouble getting the two halves to join, you can add a little more melted chocolate around the edges.
Roll the wet edges of the lego man sides and top in a bowl full of sprinkles.
Repeat steps 2 through 9 until you have 4 hot cocoa bombs completed.
Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.
