Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance can I make these?
You can make these 1-2 days in advance and store them in an airtight container.

How can I make these thicker?

If you want super thick rice krispies treats, you can double the recipe or use an 8×8 pan, except for the cup of cereal on the top. That amount will remain the same, unless you want less.

Things to Note:

  • You may not have to leave them for an hour, as they often set pretty quickly. However, I tend to let them have plenty of time to rest as they’re easier to cut and less messy that way.
  • You don’t have to add the mini marshmallows into the mixture. You can replace it with more cereal. It calls for 2 cups mini marshmallows so swap it for 2 cups cereal.
  • Don’t press the mixture down into the pan too hard or you’ll make the treats tough. They’ll pack really tight making them like jerky tough. Believe me…I made this mistake before. Don’t do it!
  • You can make the butter and marshmallow mixture over the stove instead of the microwave, if desired. It’s just quicker to use the microwave, which is why it’s my cooking method of choice.
