This Pet Ghost is the cutest Halloween craft to make with the kids! It’s super easy, budget-friendly, and you can grab most of the supplies at Dollar Tree!
This year I am the room mom for my son’s class and I knew that I had to make the class Halloween party awesome. That’s when I decided that making Pet Ghosts were on the top of the agenda and I figured out how to do just that. This fun Halloween craft is so easy to make and it was a huge hit with the class of 4th graders!
The best part is, the ghost glows in the dark – it really is the craft that keeps on giving and is perfect for Halloween! The hardest part is deciding what to name your pet ghost!

Why You’ll Love Our Craft
- Mostly made using supplies from Dollar Tree making it budget-friendly.
- Easy to assemble especially when making with kids (aside from the hot glue gun that should be used by an adult).
- Tips for ensuring your ghost looks like it’s floating in the jar.
Supplies Needed
- Mini Candy Jars: These come in a 2-pack at Dollar Tree and can be found here.
- Clear Jewelry String: Found at Dollar Tree down the craft aisle near the beads
- Black Decorative Pebbles: Found at Dollar Tree near the vases. I used this one.
- Floral Moss: Found at Dollar Tree near the vases. I used this one.
- Mini Glow-in-the-Dark Ghost Beads: I actually found these at Michaels. You can also make your own ghosts using white beads and pieces of white fabric or tissue found at Dollar Tree.
- Mini Pumpkins: I found these at Michaels as well.
- Hot Glue & Glue Gun: As an alternative can also use glue dots but we found that hot glue tend to works better but will need an adult to help with this part if making with kids.
Keep The Ghost Floating Straight
When assembling these little floating ghosts, we realized that if you don’t glue the ghost facing towards you, the ghost will constantly move around. So, we suggest making sure the ghost is facing you as you hot glue the string onto the back of the ghost bead (think of where you’d expect the ghost’s spine to be and hot glue it to that area straight down). Then hot glue onto the lid. It will help keep your ghost facing forward even after you place the lid on top.
Helpful Tips
- Be careful not to overfill your candy jar or the ghost will not float around.
- If you want to short the string, do so before gluing it to the top of the lid.
- Add any additional decorations or fillers such as paper flowers, rocks, glitter, pieces of floral arrangements, sticks, leaves, etc.
Pet Ghost
Materials
- 2-inch piece clear string
- 1 ghost bead
- 1 pumpkin bead
- hot glue
- black pebbles
- floral moss
- glitter optional
Instructions
- Start by cutting your clear string. We used a 2-inch piece and it seemed to work well. You can adjust the length to your liking.
- Next, hot glue the string to the backside of your ghost (bascially along the part where you believe the ghost’s spine would be). Allow this to cool.
- Hot glue the other end of the string to the lid of the candy jar (try to glue it in the middle of the lid for best placement). Allow this to cool.
- Decorate the inside of your candy jar to your liking. Add your pumpkin bead and any additional decorations.
- Attach the lid and your candy jar and enjoy!
