Raspberry Lemon Lip Balm

This Raspberry Lemon Lip Balm was the perfect way to bring a little bit of spring into my home early.

I am so ready for spring. Yesterday is was below freezing with crazy winds and I just don’t handle the cold well.

So, even though my house may be surrounded by a few feet of snow, I am not letting that put a damper on my wishing for an early Spring (hey, Punxsutawney Phil thinks it’s going to happen).

If you agree, this Raspberry Lemon Lip Balm recipe is for you.

Making your own lip balm is so easy and inexpensive. Plus, you know exactly what is going into it! That way you can control exactly what you want out of your lip balm and nothing more.

In fact, this recipe uses ingredients that are completely edible and really, the only ingredient that isn’t exactly natural or healthy is the gelatin which you can totally substitute or remove all together.

You can also use this recipe to make some for party favors (think baby showers and wedding favors). It’s so fun and easy to do!

Update: I’ve been getting lots of questions on which lip balm containers I purchased. I found these on Amazon that I really like. You want to make sure that you get a heat-safe container because the ingredients are hot when pouring and you don’t want your container to crack and leak all over the place.

You can order the exact ones I used here. If you really don’t want to wait to order from Amazon (free 2-day shipping for prime members) then you can also check your local Hobby Lobby or Michael’s store. They would be down the soap isle.

Let’s get to making some amazing DIY lip balm…

Supplies Needed to Make Raspberry Lemon Lip Balm:

How to Make Raspberry Lemon Lip Balm:

Start by putting the room temperature coconut oil in your microwave safe bowl. It’s pretty cool how the coconut oil goes from a solid to a liquid pretty quickly.

Now, heat up your coconut oil in the microwave for about 20 seconds just enough to get it a little melted. Then add the raspberry gelatin mix and mix until well incorporated.

Place the coconut oil back into the microwave for another 20 seconds. This time, it should melt entirely and it will have a nice deep raspberry color to it. Tip: Times will vary depending on the settings of your microwave.

Add your lemon essential oil and mix well. I want to explain that the color you see now is much darker than the final outcome. Since the coconut oil is pretty transparent when melted, the raspberry gelatin will give it a light color once hardened.

Now, carefully pour the melted mixture into your lip gloss containers and set aside. You can store at room temperate or place it into the fridge until it hardens (I chose the refrigerator option). This recipe will fill about 6 small lip balm containers (like the ones I used) so you can double or triple the recipe if you plan to make a lot more.

Yes! I have seen it at health food stores such as Whole Foods. Just make sure it's safe for consumption and not one that is made for candles. (It'll say something like food grade or skin safe on it). If you are unsure if it's the right one, just ask someone who works there :)
