Reality Set In The Day My Husband Quit His Job

There is no greater feeling than that day when you walk away from something you just do not love. Whether it makes you money or not, if you don’t love what you do, you despise it. So when you are able to say enough is enough, walking away gives a boost of confidence that is irreplaceable. It also gives a bit of reality of what is to come. So, today I want to take a moment to share my feelings of when Reality Set In The Day My Husband Quit His Job

Reality Set In The Day My Husband Quit His Job

Wow to read that sentence as I write, “The Day My Husband Quit His Job” it just brings me back to that very day. It was July 14th, 2016 when my husband officially quit working his full-time job at a local hospital. That day I just knew we were on our way to freedom and better things in life. How? You ask.

Well, it’s simple, we found a way to support our family without the need for my husband to work his job anymore. By finding a way I mean I worked really hard to help get us there. While my husband enjoyed the people he worked with, the position he was in went nowhere. As many of you may know, my husband has been in school for Game Art (video games) for almost 4 years now so a hospital is the last place he should be. He wanted a way to focus on school and a way to build his own business while utilizing his talent so bringing him home was our solution.

Of course, that meant that we were going down from two incomes to one (once again) and it meant that we had to get used to going from hardly seeing each other to being around one another all the time.

Was it easy? No and I’d be lying to you if I said it was. So, on top of the excitement of a new change, that is where the reality set in for me. As happy as I was to have him home, I also knew that it meant it was my “time to shine” in so many words. I was now the primary breadwinner so to speak, and working from home full-time with two boys and my husband would be a challenge. Luckily, I like a challenge and actually thrive on it. It was a huge confidence booster to know that all the hard work and sleepless nights I put into growing my home-based businesses while caring for my family, finally paid off. I finally felt a huge relief and like I could breathe again.

Fast-forward to almost a year later… we are in an amazing financial situation, paid off our Jeep loan 3-years early, moved into a much larger home and my husband is still home with me. We have the freedom to what we want and when we want it because we don’t have to work around a work schedule since we choose when to work and when to play.

What Financial Confidence Looks Like To Me

Sure, money is the source of all things in life. You need money for basic survival and I think that is truly something nobody can argue with. However, for me, it’s really about being able to watch my kids grow without any boundaries. I can be home with my children (and so can my husband) to watch them become their own little people and the only person I need permission from to do that, is myself. I control my business hours and my personal family hours. I determine when I need a sick day or a vacation day. I am in control 100% of our future as a family but even my role as a mother and wife.

I no longer have a boss to report to, an administration to get approval on my absence, it’s me and nobody can take that away from me. I am confident in myself and the situation we are financially and that has made our lives more joyful.

So for me, financial confidence is where I have gotten to the point in life where I worked hard to obtain an income that can support our family for the lifestyle we want to live.

Is This Something You Want Too?

Now that you’ve read my story you are probably thinking you want this too. I mean, who doesn’t want to be their own boss and be home with their family more? So how can you get there? While I obviously cannot make you do anything special to get where I am, I can share a few tips on keeping you onto the right track:

  1. Decide what your passion is or what truly makes you happy.
  2. Decide what Financial Confidence looks like to you. Maybe it’s as simple as paying off that last bit of credit card debt.
  3. Once you’ve found what you want in life, find a way to reach that (a goal). Maybe it’s putting in some extra hours, maybe it’s joining a MLM business you’ve been eyeing, or maybe it’s that you entirely cut out your daily coffee stop so you can afford to stay home or pay the bills.
  4. Once you’ve made a goal, stick with it. It’s so easy to be doing something for more than a year with no results and decide to quit (I should know because it took me almost 3 years to get where I am at). However, I am a firm believer that if you work hard, hard work pays off in the end.
  5. Have someone you trust to help with finances. I used to think I could handle it all myself and quickly found out I was very wrong. So, find a bank or financial person that is willing to help you with your finances, it will be so worth it in the end!
