Shark-Cuterie Board

I don’t know about your kids but I’ve found that my kids are way more inclined to eat their food if it’s presented in a fun way or has fun shapes.

With that being said, Summer is nearing so I thought now would be the perfect time to make a fun charcuterie board that is perfect for summer and the kids.

That is where this Shark-Cuterie Board comes into play!

This tray is perfect for pool parties, Baby Shark themed birthday parties, Shark Week, or just a fun midweek summer snack tray.

It is easy to make and my kids loved it and I am sure yours will too!

Ingredients Needed:

  • 8-inch flour tortillas – I used Old El Paso Flour Tortillas, Soft Tacos and Fajitas, 10 ct
  •  Shredded Colby and Monterey Jack Cheese
  • Turkey Pepperoni
  • Olive Oil
  • Marinara Sauce – I used a jar of Rao’s Homemade Marinara to save time, but homemade marinara would be delicious too
  • 24 Raisins (My kids detest olives, but you could also substitute the raisins for black olives)
  • White American Cheese (or any other white deli sliced cheese of your liking)
  • Powdered Mini donuts
  • 1-2 Fruit by the Foot, Red (My kids love that you don’t know which color is in a wrapper, so while I was looking for red, they got to eat any of the non-red ones. Needless to say, their fingers were crossed that I would open pink or orange)
  • Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Cheddar Crackers
  • Sliced Strawberries, stems removed
  • Gummy Shark Candy

Directions:

Begin by preparing your tray. You can get the strawberries washed and sliced, the candy open and arranged on the tray and the Goldfish opened and arranged as well.

Next, make your life preserver donuts. You will open and unroll a red Fruit by the Foot.

Begin cutting segments approximately 2 ½” long, then cut each of those segments into 4 thin strips.

Wrap the 4 strips in an “X” pattern around each of the mini powdered donuts. You may need two Fruit by the Foot snacks to cover all the donuts.

Once the donuts are made, it is time to make the Shark Quesadillas!

Begin by heating a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat in a pan. Place approximately a ¼ c of shredded colby and monterey jack cheese blend onto one tortilla.

Place approximately 8 pepperonis on top of the cheese, and then top with another tortilla.

Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until lightly browned, and cheese is melted. Repeat process until you have 3 pepperoni and cheese quesadillas.

Place on a cutting board, and cut each quesadilla into 4 equal portions. Cut 6 pepperonis in half, and place on the rounded end of the quesadilla portions.

Using a knife, cut the deli sliced American cheese into long strips, approximately ½” long, and then begin cutting each strip into small separate triangles. These will be your shark teeth. Place several cheese “teeth” around the curved side of each pepperoni half, and then place on a large plate.

Heat in the microwave for approximately 10 seconds, or just long enough to help the cheese set and adhere to the tortilla. You don’t want to fully melt the cheese, or your teeth will no longer be pointy, and sharks definitely need sharp teeth!

Next, place 2 raisins or olives as the eyes for the sharks, and add them to your tray.

Leave a space in the middle of the shark quesadillas, and put your small bowl of marinara in the middle.

Now you can begin to fill in the remaining spots on the tray with the strawberries, which will be the “shark chum”, Goldfish Cheddar Crackers aka “shark bait”, and lastly some blue gummy shark candy.
