It’s no secret that 2018 was a rough year for almost everyone.
It must have been something in the air.
But with a new year in tow, we can make changes to try to better our life this year. Better yet, make it the best year ever!
So, after some soul-searching and some research, I wanted to share some Simple Ways To Better Your Life This Year that I fully intend to incorporate into my own life.
Simple Ways To Better Your Life This Year
We all want to live the best possible life we can, and during our time on this earth we want to be able to do everything we can to achieve happiness and reach our goals.
But a lot of the time, LIFE gets in the way and it feels almost impossible for us to be able to live happily and content.
But don’t fret because today we are going to look at small things you can do every day to change your life for the better. It could be as simple as waking up a little earlier in the morning or taking online MBA programs to become a successful business owner.
Whatever your goals are, there are ways to achieve them.
There is so much to be said about being mindful in our life and it is something which is truly underrated by a lot of people. When you hear the word mindful you might think about meditation and yoga and all that spiritual stuff… and although this totally relates, it isn’t what the word really means.
The idea of being mindful is to be present whenever you are doing anything, to see what you are doing and consciously make decisions.
How many times have you woken up in the morning and suddenly ended up at work with no recollection of how? Our minds wander and next thing we know, time is lost and we have no idea why.
Being present in the moment helps you to enjoy life and you will feel as if you aren’t wasting your days.
Set a Morning Routine
It is so important for you if you want to be productive every day and awake to have a morning routine. If you currently wake up every day and fumble around for half and hour before you run out of the door, you are likely half asleep until well into the day and this can be harmful for your mind and your job.
Make sure to wake up and have a calming routine each morning where you take the time to peacefully get ready for the day.
Set a Bedtime Routine
As well as having a morning routine it is a good idea for you to have a bedtime routine. At the end of the day a lot of us don’t take enough time to wind down before we head to bed and this can be bad for our body as it carries on working too much into the night.
If you want to sleep well and feel rested for the next day make sure that you wind down and turn off your phone and TV a while before you head to sleep and this will make a massive difference to you overall.
Change your bedding
A lot of the time our lack of sleep and comfort can be down to something so simple and yet something we don’t even consider.
If you always notice that you are tired and you struggle to sleep, a great idea would be to change your bedding and get some new pillows and flip your mattress. It might seem like a small change for you to make however these changes are exactly what you need for a great night’s sleep.
Another great tip – add lavender scents into your bedding, it can certainly help you sleep!
Get Out at Lunch
Working all day, every day in the week can take its toll on our bodies and minds and usually by the middle of the day we are well in need of some rest and refreshment.
But something which can be even better for you to do in your lunch hour is get out and go for a walk or go shopping. The act of doing something which is not work related during your working day can actually make a massive difference to your energy and mental state and you can come back afterwards feeling renewed and ready to go.
Think for example if you work in the city, heading to a local museum for a quick walk around or an art gallery. Sure, you might only have an hour to spare but an hour out and about is much more fun than an hour sitting at your desk!
Make Your Lunch
Working hard every day at work can be tiring and you will likely want to make the easiest decision you can when it comes to your lunch.
If you want to make sure you can enjoy your lunch and be healthy too, make it and bring it to work with you. It is tempting to head to your local bakery for a sandwich but this is expensive and it will become boring really quickly.
And yes, you can totally take your homemade lunch with you when you get out of the office on your lunch break! It’s basically killing two birds with one stone! 😉
Get a Hobby
As adults we basically work, eat, sleep and do things that life requires of us.
It’s not only unhealthy, but it’s also draining and one day, we’ll wake up realizing we never did anything we WANTED to do and always just what we HAD to do.
Change that NOW!
Find a hobby – anything that isn’t work related and that is something you enjoy that you can call your own. You’d be amazed at how much happier you are when you have something of your own that you enjoy doing.
When we reach adulthood and we are trying to make our way in the world it can sometimes be hard to find the right motivation we need to succeed. As much as we all have ambitions, the time and effort it takes to make these happen can make it hard for us to move forward with a project.
If you want some motivation to make a change in your life you should watch a lecture online. There are lectures for any subject and they can bring you some excitement and ideas for the future.
I love watching lectures because it gives me a refreshed view on life and aspects of my current state. I often walk away with valuable tools I can use to better my situation and life.
Listen to a Podcast
Podcasts are similar to lectures except you don’t have to watch them, more just listen.
Rather than listening to music all day every day at work, try listening to a podcast.
A podcast involves people talking about a subject and usually teaching their audience about it all. If you have a subject you are interested in then this is a great idea to try and you’ll be able to learn new things and have some fun along with it.
I love to watch Podcasts about blogging and business, it really gets my creative juices flowing especially on days where my motivation hits a dead end.
Break Up Tasks
You know when you have those moments that you sit down and feel as if you haven’t achieved anything or done anything productive for the day? Well, this can happen a lot.
In fact, it happens a lot to me.
But you don’t have to worry about feeling unproductive because you have a ton of big tasks to do, instead break up your tasks into smaller, more attainable ones and focus on those.
Carrying out and completing 5 small tasks instead of 1 big one can make you feel so much more productive. It is incredibly important for you to do this now and again because it can fix a bad mood or a feeling of no energy in no time and make you feel as if you have achieved something.
Get to Know Yourself
What are your strengths and weaknesses? Are there any things that you are passionate about more than anything else?
It is so important if you want to make your life better to get to know yourself and who you are.
As adults, we tend to lose ourselves throughout life and we need to know who we are to know where we are going.
Knowing what you are skilled at is a great thing because you will be able to use this knowledge to make your life better and be happier as a result.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself to make you happy is to treat yourself.
When was the last time you truly said screw it to everything else and enjoyed yourself and lived a little?
Life can get so complex at times and it is important for us to be able to be happy and relaxed now and again. Take the time out to treat yourself and it will make you feel much happier.
Clean Out Your Closet
If you haven’t already, drop what you’re doing and go watch Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix. It will change your life!
Honestly, cleaning out your home can be so cathartic and it can also be one of the best things you can do for yourself when you are feeling stressed and down on your luck.
Living in the same four walks surrounded by clutter and mess can cramp our mind and it can cloud our senses. When you take some time out of your day to clear your home and get rid of things you don’t need, it will make you feel so much better and much happier. Taking the time to clean your closet out as well as the rest of your cupboards will allow you to feel fresh and new and ready for something new.
Spend Time with the Ones You Love
Most of us live with someone we love already, but if you don’t and you don’t often see your family, this is a big change you can make this year.
Family and friends are the best thing in our lives and they can make the darkest days feel brighter. By spending more time with the ones we love we can be happier and live a better life overall. Take a minute to call or text your family and see if they are free for a coffee or a movie. Spend more time with them and be happier as a result.
I surely hope these tips can help you achieve happiness and help you better your life this year because who doesn’t want the ultimate form of happiness?
