When Spring rolls around nothing gets me more excited then gardening and getting my hands dirty. So today’s recipe is inspired by dirt and adorable plants. These Spring Sprout Cupcakes are the perfect way to welcome Spring and satisfy your sweet tooth!

SPRING SPROUT CUPCAKES

Spring is the time when flowers are blooming and everyone is getting their yards and gardens ready for planting. I personally love Spring because it always brings color back into the world. I also love when it warms up from the freezing cold winter. In celebration of all Spring has to offer, I thought it was a fun idea to make some cute spring treats. These really scream mother nature to me and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! The recipe is below!

What You Will Need to Make Spring Sprout Cupcakes:

  • 1 box chocolate cake (plus required ingredients)
  • 1 container chocolate frosting
  • 1 package Oreos, crushed
  • Green taffy (I used airheads)
  • Mini terra-cotta clay pots

How to Make Spring Sprout Cupcakes:

Prepare your cupcakes as directed on box. Once the are done baking, remove from oven and place onto a cooling rack. Allow them to cool completely before continuing.

Place Oreos into a large resealable bag and use a rolling pin to crush. You want chunks and smaller pieces to really resemble dirt. If using terra-cotta clay pots, place one cupcake (still in the liner) inside of each pot, and then continue with the following steps.

Spread a layer of chocolate frosting onto each cupcake.  spring sprout cupcakes step1

Now, sprinkle crushed Oreos on top to create the appearance of dirt.

Next, use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife to cut out leaves and sprouts from the taffy. Place a sprout in the center of each cupcake. You can get creative and make different sizes and shapes too!

That’s it! Your cupcake is now ready to enjoy!
