I have decided to start a Stockpiling 101 Series. In this series I will post about what a stockpile is, how to create a stockpile of your own and everything in between! I will post several posts over the next few weeks in hopes this will help you achieve a stockpile of your own. If you already have a stockpile and have any other tips or helpful information please feel free to leave it in the comments below to share with everyone!
So I get this question all the time… What is a Stockpile?
By definition – A supply stored for future use, usually carefully accrued and maintained. In other words, a stockpile is a storage of goods and supplies that is available when needed. In this case a stockpile consists of household item such as groceries, personal care, healthcare, and other household items. It can consist of a few extra items to a few hundred. It depends on the space, item, and the demand needed in the household.
Stockpiling is NOT Hoarding!
I heard of instances where first impressions of a stockpile is, “oh so you basically hoard things?” No, stockpiling is not hoarding. When people hoard it becomes them and their home. I have never heard of a person that “Hoards” be able to survive off their hoarding collection or be able to donate or giveaway items like you could with a stockpile.
Well then Why Stockpile?
It’s simple, stockpile to save money in the long run! When you have a stockpile it means that you have those expensive razors you love so much right when you need it. It means no more late night trips to the grocery store for toilet paper and it means NEVER having to pay full price for items again. Add up all the wasted time, gas, and money spent to obtain items you normally would use and you make for some great saving! Stockpiling the right way can save you hundreds even thousands every year. Money that can be used on things you Want rather on just things you Need.
Stockpiling is also great for emergencies. Just think, what would happen if you or your significant other lost their job? Or if a natural disaster took place where you live. Maybe some of you already know what that feels like. It becomes a constant struggle trying to figure out how you are going to provide for your family. If you have a stockpile you have your solution. You can have months worth of meals, medical supplies, and other household items in case of the unexpected.
You have convinced me, when can I get Started?
Let me start off by saying, nobody has a full stockpile overnight. It takes work, dedication, and more importantly patience! You do not want to run to the store tomorrow morning and start using every coupon to purchase every product. You will not save money and will not grow your stockpile properly and remember saving money is the whole point to a stockpile. You need to grow your stockpile little by little, watch for sales, and match coupons to those sales to get the most bang for your buck.
