How did I come up with this idea?
Well, let me tell you a little story…
It was 10 AM on the last day of school and I realized I completely forgot to make something for my son’s teachers. I had been playing on making a chalk DIY project for them (even bought all of the stuff) and I forgot. Since he got out early on his last day, I had to think fast.
I went over to PicMonkey and make a quick printable. I sent it to print at my local FedEx Kinkos store (because they always look better printed there versus at home) and ran to Lowe’s.
I ended up finding these beautiful Monrovia 2.5-Quart Orange Gerbera Daisy for $7.98 and I grabbed them – score.
I ended up paying about $26 including taxes and the printable page so it was about $9.00 per plant (I bought 3).
I ran out to my car, assembled the tags and I made it to my son’s school in time with 2 minutes to spare.
By the way – in case you’re wondering how I got pictures of these, I actually took the photos in the back of my Honda Pilot, in the parking lot of Lowe’s – my husband held up my photography backdrop so I could snap these pics. HA!
The teachers and principle loved them. I loved they didn’t cost too much and still allowed us to show our love and appreciation for everything they’ve done all school year.
So, it’s super simple to make this especially if you’re on a time crunch like I was…

Supplies needed:
- Flower in a pot
- ‘Thank You For Helping Me Grow’ Gift Tags (free printable)
- Popsicle Stick
- Double-Sided Sticky Tape
- Scissors
It’s super simple to make!
Simply print the gift tags and cut them out. My husband does much better at the free-hand cutting than I do, so I let him cut them out.
Then, attach the double-sided sticky tape onto the popsicle stick then apply the printable gift tag.
Stick the tag into the plant and give to your teacher.
This is a great and inexpensive DIY gift that is perfect for teachers, music teachers, principles, dance instructors and pretty much anyone that is responsible for helping your child learn and grow in some way.
You can give this during teacher appreciation week, the end of a school year or even as a ‘just because’ gift and honestly, it’s far more thoughtful than a gift card (although, you could include that with this too).
