How to Make Sunrise Jello Shots with Rum
Ingredients:
- Bailey’s Colada
- Cold Water
- Pineapple juice
- Orange juice
- Unflavored Gelatin
- Bright Yellow and Red Food Coloring Gel
- Maraschino Cherries
- Plastic Shot Glasses
Directions:
Step One: Pour the water into a large measuring cup with a spout. Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over the water, and let the gelatin bloom for 15 minutes, until completely dissolved.
Step Two: Pour half of the gelatin into another pitcher with a spout and add a splash of cherry juice (from the jar of maraschino cherries) and one drop of red food coloring and stir well.
Step Three: Add the cherry layer to the shot glasses, filling them about a third of the way up, with the cherry mixture. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to cool.
Step Four: Mix up the yellow layer, add gelatin, Bailey’s colada, pineapple juice, and orange juice, stir well. Then add 1 drop of yellow food coloring and stir well.
Step Five: Pour the yellow layer on top of the cherry layer and fill each jelly shot cup to the top. Place them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to cool.
Step Six: Place a Maraschino Cherry on the top of each shot glass before serving.
Step Seven: Serve, and Enjoy!
Things to Note:
- You can use malibu rum or any other delicious rum of your choosing. Basically, any white rum will work for these.
- I used 2 oz shot glasses but you can use any size of plastic containers or jello shot cups you’d like.
- Use gel food coloring as it mixes better and gives a more vibrant color.
- If you’d rather have the layers of jello flavored, you can use watermelon jello or strawberry jello for the red layer and lemon jello for the yellow layer.
- You can use coconut water in place of the regular water if you want more of a tropical flavor.
- For easy transfer to the fridge, place the jell-o shots on a cookie sheet and place into the refrigerator.
- Keep all jello shots in the fridge before serving. They will be good for 3-4 days after making.
